Kensington Roof Gardens is a truly seasonal venue that comes alive throughout the year to honour all manner of occasions – with a kid’s Easter egg hunt in spring, fantastic Christmas parties, and in good weather, this vibrant venue hosts some of the best barbecues in the city. Not only is this an altogether pleasant place to spend and afternoon and evening due to the stunning, ever-changing manicured gardens and views over Kensington’s rooftops, it’s also a great place to grab a bite to eat.
It does seem slightly extravagant at first, but £60 per person will buy you a comfortable chair at a large (and therefore practical) table, where you will receive starters of olives, hummous, breads and oils, followed by a sumptuous selection of top quality organic meats, fresh vegetables roasted to perfection, and a choice of unusual hand-crafted sausages. We particularly recommend the lamb and mint.
Gentle and uncomplicated jazz will be provided by a live band, and there are plenty of good value drinks offers available such as pitchers of Pimms and jugs of lager. This is the kind of venue where tap water comes with ice and lemon, and the service is professional and friendly. Then, of course, your journey home afterwards will be made easy by the fact that the Roof Gardens boasts such an accessible and convenient location. A highly recommended choice for a special summertime treat.
This charming 4* London hotel doesn’t just offer beautiful rooms and excellent facilities for its guests – it also boasts one of the best-kept secrets in the city. The patio garden here plays host to brilliant barbecues at every available opportunity, so if the sun is out, it’s well worth heading down to savour the menu.
The setting itself is utterly wonderful, as the hotel overlooks an immaculately kept traditional English garden – which is currently blooming in fragrant roses. Completely secluded but lively and dynamic, the BBQ area here offers up a mouth-watering array of classic meats, sides and salads, or you can order an afternoon tea with cakes & scones, or perhaps mix and match with something from the a la carte menu. It’s also the ideal place for lunch after a trip to the British Museum, which is just a stone’s throw away.
The Terrace at The Montague is also available for private hire and able to hold 150 people. Function Fixers can still book events here in 2014, with prices starting at £85 per person (minimum 50 people). This includes venue hire, a three course barbecue meal cooked on the grill, unlimited beer, red and white wine for 3 hours, a glass of Pimms for each guest on arrival and a DJ until midnight.
