This has been a mercifully short week if you had Monday off, and the calendars are filling up nicely with lots of outside events and festivals to make the most of the (hopefully) lovely spring weather. Here is our weekly look at the unique weekend events worth visiting.

If you’re in South Wales on Friday or if you’re a die hard fan of 1980s comedy and dining out, check out Only Fools and 3 Courses at the Thistle Hotel in Cardiff.  Combining a 3 course meal with live comedy action this promises to be a great night out for any fan of Del Boy and Rodney.  Professionally produced with top comic actors this will be a lovely jubbly event.

The Brighton Festival continues this weekend and until 24 May with a full program of events throughout Brighton.  Events this weekend include Bafta Kids TV workshops, film installations and exhibitions.  One of the most intriguing appears to be The Company of Wolves which is a promenade theatre adventure which offers a night time, interactive theatre experience. There are also many events suitable for children, including a performance of Our Teacher’s a Troll.

One of our favourite venues at Function Fixers is London Cru, a unique winery in the middle of London.  On Saturday 9th they are hosting two of their events which offer tours of the winery and on site tastings.  There are two sessions, one at 2pm and one at 4pm and tickets are available from Cru.

Finally, it can’t have escaped your attention that this Friday sees the 70th anniversary of VE Day.  A whole host of events are planned up and down the country, with some of the showstoppers planned for London.  However there are events in most corners of the UK with commemorative beacons being lit in many towns.  For a full list of beacons the MOD tumblr has a guide.  One event that looks like it captures the spirit of the event is in Aldershot the home of the British Army. Their VE Day 70 event has a vintage fair, classic car shows and 1940s entertainment, fun and educational for all the family.
