All over the world families will be doing their best to spoil their mothers this Mother’s Day.

If you want to make your mother feel like a queen, you don’t necessarily have to spend a fortune doing so.  Little things like a cup of tea or breakfast in bed will set the day.  Lunch or dinner out is always a treat and doesn’t have to cost the earth, so if you want to give your mother a chance to dress up and go out, we have some low budget lunch, afternoon tea and dinner ideas.

If you have a Frankie and Benny’s near to you, they are offering mums a free bottle of house wine with two main courses ordered.  Normal value of wine is £14.95, so a good saving there.

If a Harvester is more your thing, then they are letting mums eat for FREE!  No voucher is needed – you just need to have your mum with you to qualify.

Should your budget stretch a bit further, the Goring Dining Room is offering a special menu with three courses and a glass of Ruinart Rose Champagne for £68.50 per person.

If afternoon tea is more your thing and you are in London, why not try the Mad Hatter’s tea party at the Sanderson Hotel?   Based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, it brings the whimsy of his work to life through the medium of food. From the multi-flavoured ‘drink me’ potions to the mini Victoria sponges decorated with clock faces, there are lots of lovely little references to Wonderland.

The selection of chocolate and savoury scones break away from the traditional high tea conventions that we’re used to, as do the alternative teas which include strawberries and cream, and apple pie.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’ll love this one, so take a tumble down the rabbit hole and have tea with the Mad Hatter.

Price: From £38 per person

Should you prefer to spend some more quality time with your mother, then why not visit an art gallery or take in a show?  The V&A Museum has a fascinating exhibition of wedding dresses from 1775-2014.    See how the notable fashion designers from Norman Hartnell and Charles James to the outré John Galliano, Christian Lacroix and Vivienne Westwood and classic Vera Wang put their own mark on this iconic form.  Augmenting the V&A’s own pieces will be some new acquisitions and loans such as Dita Von Teese’s purple dress designed by Vivienne Westwood (worn when she married Marilyn Manson) and the outfits worn by Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale on their wedding day.  March 15th is the last day of this exhibition.

Finally, why not cook at home for your mum?  If cooking just isn’t your bag, how about an M&S family roast?  Find the perfect menu to suit her tastes by choosing a joint of meat, two large side dishes, a pudding and a bottle of wine, all for £20.  She will love it!
