No 4 Hamilton Place: A Venue for Unique Events
No.4 Hamilton Place, home of the Royal Aeronautical Society – A historic building with modern facilities.
The Royal Aeronautical Society is the world’s only professional body dedicated to the entire aerospace community. Established in 1866 to further the art, science and engineering of aeronautics, the Society has been at the forefront of developments in aerospace ever since.
The House has a fascinating history with the first reference to the short street known as Hamilton Place appearing in the latter half of the 17th Century. The houses then were small with none of the elegance we show now.
Documentary evidence shows that the architect Thomas Leverton designed the house in 1807 for a client, the 2nd Earl of Lucan. A later resident was the Duke of Wellington in 1814.
In March 1939 the Society moved in but during WW2 the house suffered blast damage on seven occasions.
By 1957 the Society’s programme of lectures and conferences and halls for hire meant they needed a lecture theatre. The reconstruction of Hyde Park Corner in conjunction with purchasing land from a neighbouring garden meant they were able to do so. The lecture theatre was opened in December 1960.
Since then, No.4 has been through many refurbishments, including adapting the AV equipment to meet the current needs, redoing floors to match current trends and modernising some rooms to the high standards that No.4 is today.

Even though No.4 Hamilton Place is a historic listed building our aim is to maintain the level of modern equipment so that we can maintain the level of clients we get through the door. Over the years, we have had many events and filming take place. Including OMEGAs Her Time House, which took over the venue for 3 months. We’ve also had the series Downton Abbey, use our Argyll Room in one of their Christmas specials.
We’ve been able to host celebrations including weddings, receptions, birthday parties. We’ve hosted large conferences for a number of external clients, but also internal aviation companies. Our smaller rooms can be used for private dining and meetings. We are also well known for summer parties, due to our fabulous terrace that overlooks Hyde Park London.

Furthermore, the Society has and will continue to develop the property we call home, but keeping the original features. The elegant house known as No.4 Hamilton Place, has had a distinguished past and we look forward to it having an equally eminent future
