One of the Most Unusual and Beautiful Wedding Venues in Central London
The Garden Museum is one of London’s most handsome wedding venues. Its central location makes it an attractive spot for a city celebration, but the notion and essence of the building is one very much connected with nature. The outside space here is quite remarkable – a totally unexpected and lovely surprise in this bustling past of London. A 17th century ‘knot garden’ is the central feature and a perfect place for drinks receptions, and there are also smaller meadow gardens, offering plenty of options for your all-important photographs.
You could choose to have a marquee in the grounds for your reception, or you could hold your party in the building itself. The architecture leans itself to weddings, as it’s a converted church! The building was rescued from disrepair in 1977, and is the final resting place of John Tradescant, the first noted plant-hunter and horticulturalist to be recognised in England. He was buried here in 1638, and his grand tomb is a feature of one of the gardens. Of course, the church was an old building, but it has been modeized sympathetically and stylishly. There are striking and typical features such as huge arches and high ceilings, stained glass and white marble floors. The Museum is as stunning in summer as it is in winter, and is often used for gallery exhibitions and photo shoots, due to its abundance of natural light and flexible open spaces.
The other huge advantage of the building is its acoustics. Originally designed for choirs and small orchestras, timeless techniques have been applied here so that your band or DJ will sound fantastic wherever they are placed. This is not something to underestimate in a large venue – often the sound can bounce back down from the ceiling in such a vast environment, creating a bizarre echo. This certainly will not happen here.
You can seat 120 for a banquet style dinner, and could invite up to 200 guests in total for your reception. This is a big space with gorgeous gardens right in the shadow of the Houses of Parliament – a London venue not to be missed. A site visit is highly recommended – call Function Fixers now to arrange.
