Party like royalty aboard The Britannia
The Britannia is one of the UK’s most famous ships, and after her rich and varied years of service and travel for Queen and Country, she is now berthed to rest in Edinburgh’s historic port of Leith, boasting stunning views over the Forth. While this venue is open to the public during the day, it transforms into a stylish and sophisticated party venue after dark – and has now earned the reputation as one of the most exclusive and luxurious party venues in Scotland.
The Royal Deck is the largest events space, and this is where our Royal Family played games, had fun, and generally relaxed in private away from the prying eyes of the public and press. Now thoroughly modernised but still retaining its unique character, floor to ceiling glass windows offer amazing views and the blank canvas floor space allows for more creative set ups, colour schemes, decorating and layouts. Hire of the Royal Deck can also include the use of the State Apartments, thus hosting 380 people, or if you wished to hire the Deck individually as an outdoor summer party venue, 180 people can enjoy a reception here with fabulous views of the city.
The State Drawing Room and The State Dining Room form and elegant and spacious suite (The State Apartments), and are available to hire as a large enclosed space for receptions of up to 250 people. World leaders, celebrities, royalty and legend alike have been entertained here by Her Majesty herself – including Frank Sinatra, Winston Churchill, Gandhi and President Mandela. The very finest crystal, glimmering cutlery, freshly cut flowers and customised menus are just a few of the opulent details you’ll notice, and the décor itself is both immaculate and inviting – with wooden paneled walls, squashy furniture and romantic candle-effect lighting. An antique grand piano is permanently in use here (once played by Princess Diana herself), and it makes rather a spectacular feature – as well as being an instant source of background music! Professional pianists are always on hand to enhance your party with some precise tinkling on genuine, historic ivories.
The Wardroom was the dining room for the Britannia’s Officers where nowadays, 8-18 guests can experience a succulent and secluded feast with a bespoke six-course tasting menu. A perfect venue choice for an extra-special and intimate occasion, there are menu options here that include canapés, meals, wines, beers, champagnes and soft drinks.
The expert team of event specialists is trained to handle any kind of event, from corporate functions to private dining. The in-house culinary team resides in the Royal Galleys, and produces everything from scratch and fresh that day – from the bread on your side plate to the veg in the silver platters, and the meat on the grill to the cream in your coffee.
Entertainment is something that the Britannia does really, really well. Fireworks over the water, a Scottish Harp during dinner, the Royal Brigade offering a bagpipe’s welcome, and tours of this fascinating and enormous piece of maritime history are all arranged quickly and easily – so you could really push the boat out (sorry, can’t resist a pun) and give your guests an evening they’ll never forget.
We at Function Fixers are able to book the Britannia at prices you simply won’t find on the market – so contact us free of charge and with no obligation, and we’ll get back to you within just hours with an honest, no-nonsense quote!
