If you have guests visiting London and would like to give them a real taste of the city but at an affordable price, we at Function Fixers would highly recommend Albannach & Doon, located on Trafalger Square.
This contemporary restaurant combines a menu of seasonal British dishes with traditional Scottish recipes, and boasts unrivalled views of Nelson’s Column and the hustle and bustle around it. The main bar may well be one of the best people-watching spots in London, and you can enjoy watching the action with a glass of delicious Scottish whiskey or a cocktail made of fruits from English orchards, while admiring a stunning chandalier made of stag antlers and the array of charming Scottish memorablia on the walls.
The restaurant itself is set over two floors, and has been set out to make the most of the views from wherever you sit. For your meal, you’re looking at incredibly reasonable prices – with starters at around £5 and including mouth-watering treats such as Inverawe smoked salmon with fresh crusty bread, and Dorset duck breast accompanied by wild mushroom pate on walnut & raison toast. Main courses start at £11.50 and go up to £25 for a 10oz ribeye Hereford steak, and you’ll encounter old favourites such as haggis, roast dinners and a scrumptious vegetarian puff pastry wellington. All puddings are £6.50, and you can choose from a tempting range of chocolate, crumble, fruit, and ice cream desserts.
Albannach & Doom also serves as an excellent venue for meetings and private functions. On the lower ground floor, this busy restaurant is hiding a gem. The stunning exposed red brick vaults below have been transformed into a stylish, intimate events space – with moody red lighting, low-level seating and a hardwood floor. Perfect for parties and receptions of up to around 30 people, this ideally located little venue provides an atmospheric backdrop for your celebration, and also features several LCD screens for image display or presentations.
There’s also a fully equipped Board Room here, which can double up as a private dining room. This space has been modeised and styled with the corporate market in mind, and presents itself smartly using a light wood floor, dark chocolate coloured walls showered in golden light, and an art-deco style rectangular chandelier spanning the length of the table beneath it. This is a warm space with flattering, atmospheric lighting – which can be instantly dimmed for maximum impact from the 50” plasma screen on the wall. Ideal for presentations and with the option to uncover the windows for natural daylight, this flexible space offers you the perfect opportunity to host a business meeting in a fully-equipped, practical, professional and comfortable meeting room, then afterwards, you can sample some oak aged whiskey at the bar and look down upon Trafalgar Square, have a hearty and informal dinner in the main restaurant, or indulge in treating your delegates to private dining in the meeting room. Similarly, you could hire the venue’s nightclub-style basement and arrange a drinks reception, safe in the knowledge that your Central London location guarantees an easy jouey home.
It is possible, if booked well in advance, to hire this venue exclusively for private events. The entire restaurant could be yours to entertain up to 200 people, and there’s a 12ft by 8ft projector screen here that can be hung on the ground floor – perfect for product launches and for displaying moving images during fashion shows.
Function Fixers are able to book tables for parties and get-together’s in the main restaurant for up to 30 people – click here to get the best seats in the house. If you’re interested in hosting a private event at Albannach, please contact us here.
