Baby showers are becoming increasingly common in the UK. They’re a great way to celebrate the new life you have created, and an opportunity to receive gifts that you will actually need once the baby arrives. Traditionally, these celebrations only involve women and certainly aren’t all-night drinking events – if you get the sense that your guests might not be as enthusiastic as you are, here are a few ideas as to what you can do to ensure that the party still goes off with a bang.

Have a theme that nobody expects. Make it about you as well as the baby – it’s all well and good having a stork here and a cradle there, but why not ask everyone to come inspired by their favorite childhood book, or wear their first school badge or tie? 

Whilst tea and cake is something very few of us can resist, you could go one step further. You could buy a selection of exotic coffee and hire some unusual cups and crockery, or create a buffet of weird and wonderful food which is still safe for you to eat when pregnant.

You could hire a private space in a cocktail bar, for ‘mocktails’. Delicious, alcohol free and exotic, you can create a party atmosphere with decorative beverages that everyone is sure to enjoy.  Many places offer buffet packages as well, and you can decorate the venue beforehand to personalize it to your taste – and while you may have to take down the decorations at the end of the party, you won’t have to worry about washing up…
