What shall we do today?
Are your children getting bored this half-term? We have discovered a great place to take them, right on our doorstep here in London.
Creekside Discovery Centre on Deptford Creek has a huge amount of indoor and outdoor activities for all ages. You can walk though a wild river, fish for creatures in their natural environment and experience the hige diversity of urban wildlife.
Deptford Creek is a tidal tributary of the Thames and is home to hundreds of fresh and slatwater plants and animals. The centre is a purpose built environmental education centre and they have all the staff and equipment you need for some good, honest muddy fun. They even provide waders!
The Creek provides a home for Chinese mitten crabs and for young fish with regular visits from herons, cormorants and kingfishers.
In addition there is also the Sue Godfrey nature park which is a wild space with over 200 species of wild flowers, shrubs and trees providing a hole for butterflies, grasshoppers and crickets.
