The Curling Club – London’s Latest Winter Craze
Why does The Curling Club do what it does? What led a group of individuals to create a festive pop-up based around a sport first played on a frozen pond in Bonnie Scotland, over 500 years ago?
The answer is simple… Give the people what they didn’t know they wanted!

Every four years, the Winter Olympics bring a surge of excitement and enthusiasm for “Chess on Ice”, captivating audiences worldwide. There’s something inherently captivating about “The Roaring Game” that transcends its seemingly simple premise. Perhaps it’s the strategic depth or the incredible precision required to navigate the intricacies of the game, or the camaraderie and teamwork on display as athletes work together to achieve victory… Or perhaps it’s because it is so alien to most of the world that it is simply fascinating!

In 2020, this fascination was noted by an unassuming events company based in South West London that wanted to bring this passion to the heart of the city. Utilising some of the brilliant technology developed around iceless curling and capitalising on London’s reputation as the “Silicon Valley” of Competitive Socialising, two beautiful pop-ups were launched in Winter 2021 at Finsbury Square and The Langham Hotel. The plan was to beat the recent COVID-19 blues with London’s biggest apres ski party, all based around curling!

February 2022 Brought The Beijing Olympics and a gold, and silver double to Great Britain (With The Curling Club ambassador, Eve Muirhead, skippering the women’s team to GB’s first-ever Winter Olympic Gold). Iceless technology, social media and the slowly receding global pandemic brought a wave of growth for the sport around the world. The sport traditionally dominated by wealthy, northern countries, has begun to spring up everywhere. This is shown perfectly by Brazil and Nigeria both competing in the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games! Nigeria’s nickname of “Broomzilla’s” must be one of the best around.

Curling is egalitarian, it is welcoming and it ignites a competitive spirit like few others. The team at “TCC” absolutely loves this and wants to be part of the journey as the sport grows. Adding the pazazz and wow factor of an apres-ski party is all part of the fun of bringing the sport to more businesses, schools, universities and tourists around The UK.

As of April 2024, TCC is gearing up for its fourth winter season (with some very exciting new locations to be announced soon) as well as launching its Rent-to-Curl service that brings iceless curling to any venue that wants to join the fun.
