If you’re heading to the capital to take advantage of the January sales this year, you’ll no doubt be paying a visit to the shopaholic’s paradise of London – Oxford Street. You will no doubt be stopping (only to regain energy for more bargain hunting, of course), for a bite to eat and a spot of revitalizing refreshment. Inevitably, all of the commercial shops will have their cafés full of people from dawn until dusk, so we’ve found a few quirky eateries and bars that we think offer you good food at reasonable prices, in a more cosmopolitan and novelty environment, just couple of minute’s walk from Oxford Street.
Match Bar offers up excellent cocktails and a simple yet elegant lunch menu. You can also choose from a range of fabulous Mocktails from the juice bar here, and a full stomach will set you back just £5. Match Bar’s biggest selling point is that it really is enormous fun. The extensive cocktail list includes all the classics, but the team here have developed some truly unique and unusual drinks. ‘A Slow not so Comfortable Screw against a Sandy Wall during Derby with a Jockey in a Cape’ is our personal favourite, but you’ll also find the ‘Half Yard of Frozen Margarita’ (not for the faint hearted) and ‘The Chinese Love Bomb’. All in all, Match Bar is a welcoming and vibrant venue. Throughout the day you can enjoy the warm wooden panelled walls and the vast array of quirky paintings and mirrors on the walls from your deluxe leather chair, and once the sun goes down, you can tuck your shopping under your enormous solid oak table and experience this place transforming into a cool, cosmopolitan and ultimately good-natured bar.
If you’re looking for something a little more traditional and need a good feeding after a hard moing’s shopping, then you can’t go wrong with good honest British pub grub. However, finding this kind of establishment in Central London can be surprisingly difficult if you’re not familiar with the area. Many of the more traditional pubs are tucked away from the bustle of the shopping district, and it can be difficult bag a table. The Old Explorer offers the perfect solution to this problem. Here you will find a welcoming, familiar pub environment, with a huge amount of floor space and a bar large enough to guarantee you’ll never que for a drink! Affordable yet good quality, the food here is as you’d expect – burgers, steak, seafood and skinny fries – and the drinks are eclectic but range hugely in price and quality. If you’d like a glass of fine wine you’ll certainly find it here at a reasonable price, and ale and beer drinkers will be completely satisfied with the huge selection on offer.
For something altogether more upscale, Function Fixers can book you in for a sophisticated afteoon champagne tea at No.5 Cavendish Square. This grade II listed building offers pure elegance and class, and you can enjoy a fantastic lunch in the new restaurant, Flavour, which boasts dishes which have been specially designed by both Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver’s teams. Or, you could enjoy a glass of ice cold champagne on the Roof Terrace, where you can enjoy watching London go by from the comfort of a luxury upholstered chair. The vintage style Whiskey Bar is the ideal place for re-grouping in opulent surroundings in front of a roaring fire, before heading just yards back to Oxford Street.
You can guarantee yourself a table in any of these venues and many more with Function Fixers. Simply give us a call or fill out our quick and simple online form with the date (or dates) of your shopping trip, and we’ll book you a space free of charge in one of our reliable and reputable venues.
