London’s only restaurant with a petanque court – fantastic French food with fun and games at Baranis!
This is a bar with a totally unique selling point. Boasting the UK’s only indoor petanque court, Baranis is fast becoming a highly sought-after party venue for both enthusiasts and professional players from all over the world. Nestled in the underground vaults of what was once the Chancery Auction House and decorated in a classic French style, this restaurant and bar offers a fantastic environment for a special occasion.
Providing both intimate booths and open spaces, Baranis is available as an exclusive private hire venue for 20 to 150 people every weekend throughout the year. You can enjoy a wide selection of Pastis, Absinthe and delicious foods from the Provence, with a bottle of house wine coming in at £19.50 and a cocktail at £8. The dinner menu is not exactly lengthy, as all the food that is prepared by the chefs comes in fresh from the market each day. The food really is excellent – and also happily inexpensive. A burger comes in at £9.50, and there is a short menu of bar snacks to choose from, with Provençal Pop Corn at £1.50 and mixed olives at £2.50. Make sure you try the chocolatey desserts…
Cocktail lovers are well taken of, too. Creative bespoke drinks are served alongside classic French liquors and champagnes, and we thoroughly recommend ordering their Provencial and Corsican Charcuterie Platter at just £9.50 to get a taste of the mouth watering meats, cheeses and breads that this restaurant is so quickly becoming famous for.
Then, of course, there’s the penanque court. This is a traditional, cleverly designed play area for petanquers that allows you to have a game during your event – a very rare and quirky feature of a trendy London restaurant! Naturally, Baranis is a brilliant choice of venue for occasional team celebrations, but there’s also a solid customer base who frequent this venue simply because indoor courts are so difficult to find in the city – and what better way to pass the time between plays than indulging in wine, nibbles and cocktails? We at Function Fixers won’t be surprised if a craze catches on, and perhaps we’ll be seeing more venues installing courts around the country – but remember, you heard it here first!
