Village Underground is a fantastic urban cultural space, ideally situated in the heart of Shoreditch and just a few minutes from the City. A truly fascinating and completely versatile venue, the unique design of Village Underground uses a mix of disused London Underground tube train carriages, which have been recycled to form quirky and unusual creative studios, coupled with voluminous raw Victorian warehouse spaces which have been transformed into multifunctional arenas, able to host conferences and product launches, lavish themed dinner dances, private parties, club nights and receptions, fashion shows, and exhibitions. This blank canvas venue has also been used as a film and photography location, as it has a complete blackout facility while also being able to let in plenty of sunshine through its glass-panelled ceiling.
The main aim of Village Underground was to provide a space where art could thrive, and the social circle surrounding the industry would have a reliable and familiar location to display their works, and build bonds with one another. As such, this venue has all the facilities required for a club night or private celebration – and houses cloakrooms, a bar, a full PA and lighting kit, and everything necessary for staging live music or corporate presentations.
This is an easy space to brand, as the ten metre high exposed brick walls can display enormous lighting features with personalised gobos. Also, this room requires barely any decoration to transform into a party venue, with some simple up-lighting in your chosen colour adding instant impact to the space. The polished concrete floor is perfect for dancing, and you can house anywhere between 200 and 700 people within these looming walls.
You would have to take care of catering yourself, as this is strictly a dry hire venue. However, being so close to London gives you a wealth of options in terms of which catering company you should go for, and what kind of food you’d like to serve. The bar here comes at an additional price, but it is reasonable and won’t cut into your budget any more than asking your caterer to supply the drinks. See if you can find a caterer that can do you a package deal with food, tables, linen and chairs – you could save a fortune on hire prices, and it allows you to have one point of communication for such important issues such as food, seating, cutlery and table linen.
Function Fixers have seen some truly spectacular events in this flexible and unique venue. These adaptable Victorian warehouse vaults are able to adapt to the style of a huge array of functions, and the renovated underground carriages make excellent studio spaces for artists to perfect their craft in an affordable and inspiring environment.
